Brenda Edgin

Brenda Edgin, 58, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away January 5, 2010 at the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville.  Born March 31, 1951 in Lawrenceville, she was the daughter of Parmer Eugene and Aletha (Wimberly) Tewell.  She was a healthcare provider and worked in a factory.

Survivors include one daughter, Tammy and Michael Brunson, of rural Sumner; four grandchildren Kyle, Lucas, Lyndsey, and Joshua Brunson; four sisters Bonnie Rodgers, Shirley and Loel Martin, Sandra Kay Wheeler, and Debra Sue May all of Lawrenceville; four brothers William and Sharon Wimberly, Leo and Anna Tewell all of Lawrenceville, Ronnie and Sharon Tewell and Steve and Ellen Tewell all of St. Francisville, IL; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Saturday at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. There is no visitation.  Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Louise Cunningham

Mary Louise Cunningham, 80, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away January 4, 2010 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital. Born September 8, 1929 in Lawrenceville, IL she was the daughter of Lawrence and Gladys (Kelly) Litherland.  She married Tom L. Cunningham August 18, 1950 and he preceded her in death.

Mary was a homemaker and a bookkeeper for Stillwell and Wright.  She was a member of the First Christian Church and a member of the Elks Ladies Lunch Party.

Survivors include three sons Kenneth Jay Cunningham of West Palm Beach Gardens, FL; James Alan Cunningham of Youngsville,LA and Danny Thomas Cunningham of Lawrenceville, IL; one brother Lawrence Litherland, Jr of Collins, MI; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL.  Burial will follow in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

Friends may call Friday from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Lawrence Township Library or the First Christian Church.

Nancy J. Rich

Nancy J. Rich, 62, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Tuesday December 22, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.

 Born May 6, 1947 in Lawrence County, IL she was the daughter of Arthur and Margaret (Criswell) Rich.

 She is survived by 2 sisters: Hazel Shoulders of Birds, IL, and Cathy Harrington of Lawrenceville, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

 She retired from Golden Rule after 39 years. She was a member of the Central Christian Church. She was also a member of the National Miniature Association.

 The funeral will be Saturday December 26, 2009 at 1:00pm at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home with burial to follow at Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Visitation is also Saturday from 11:00am until the service time of 1:00pm.

George L. Christy

George Lewis Christy, 80, of Sumner, IL passed away December 21, 2009 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital, Lawrenceville, IL following an extended illness.

 Born November 18, 1929 in Decker, IN he was the son of James Lewis and Minnie Viola (Allen) Christy. He married Imogene (Baker) Christy July 30, 1950.   

George was a member of the Sumner United Methodist Church.  He was a school bus driver for 10 years, then worked as manager for Rich-Law Farm Service for 21 years.  He was also a farmer.

 George was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother James; a brother Clarence Christy; two sisters and brothers-in-law Ermel and John Saums and Ruby and Bud Satterthwaite; and one great-grandson Samuel Benjamin Shashack.

Survivors include his wife Imogene; one son and daughter-in-law John and Pam Christy of Lawrenceville, IL; one daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Jack Weger of Robinson, IL; three grandchildren and spouses Kaci and Ben Shashack of Katy, TX; Brandon Christy of Tuscola, IL and Jordan Weger of Robinson, IL; two step-grandchildren Charles Salesman of Robinson, IL and Rachel Salesman of Vincennes, IN; two great-grandchildren Bailee and Winnie Shashack of Katy, TX; one great-granddaughter and one step-great-grandson are both due in April, 2010. Also surviving are two brothers and three sisters-in-law Grover and Dot Christy of St. Francisville, IL; Bob and Wildas Christy of Lawrenceville and LaVersa Christy of St. Francisville, as well as many great-nieces and nephews.

 Funeral services will be 10:00 am Thursday morning at the Sumner United Methodist Church, Sumner, IL.

 Friends may call from 5 to 8 pm Wednesday at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home, Sumner, IL.

 Burial will be in Cresthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.

Floyd Eugene “Gene” Heath

Floyd Eugene “Gene” Heath, 71, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2009 at his residence in Bridgeport.

Born April 6, 1938 in Sumner, IL, he was the son of Durwood and Helen Louise (Andrus) Heath. On August 25, 1984 he married Diana Sarber. She survives.

Also surviving are a son: Kenneth Gosnell Jr. of Lawrenceville, IL, a daughter: Kennanita Lawson of Evansville, IN, 2 brothers: Donald Health of Bridgeport, IL, Durwood Heath of Bridgeport, IL, a sister: Barbara Smith of Plainfield, IL and 9 grandchildren. A daughter: Lorra Snyder and a sister are deceased.

He worked as a bargeman for 23 years until retirement. He was a member of the Moose and the AFLCIO of Earth City, MO. He was a US Army Veteran.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 12noon at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Visitation is also Wednesday from 10:00am until services at 12noon.

Inez Conour

Inez P. Conour, 104, of Falkville, AL (formerly of Sumner) passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Falkville Healthcare Center.  She was born May 13, 1905, in Lukin Township, Illinois, to David and Ida Inyart Hill.  She married Carroll (Tad) Conour and he preceded her in death.

Inez was a member of the Sumner United Methodist Church.  She and her husband owned and operated the Conour Service Station, as well as the OK Bakery in Sumner for many years.  She was a lifelong resident of Sumner until 2001, when she moved to Alabama to be near her son Charles and his family.

 Inez was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carroll (Tad) Conour, and siblings Clarence Hill, Noble Hill, Cory Hill, Marie Lukens, and Elva Madden. 

Survivors include one son Charles and his wife Glenn; granddaughters Carol (Mike) Tyler and Cheryl (Mark) Hancock; and grandsons Michael (Marsha) Groves and Charles (Michael) Conour, Jr., eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. 

 The funeral service will be Saturday,December 19, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Sivert-Macey Funeral Home in Sumner.  Inez’s grandsons will be pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews.

 Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to a local Hospice organization of the donor’s choice.

Gina Rae Berkshire

Gina Rae Berkshire, 53, of Vincennes, IN passed away December 10, 2009 at her residence.

Born June 10, 1956 in Lawrenceville, IL she was the daughter of Ronald R. and Dorothy (Jackson) Berkshire.

Gina was preceded in death by her mother.

Survivors include her father Ronald and his wife Yolanda of Lawrenceville; one son Joel L. Berkshire of Camp Lejune, NC; one daughter Tacida Dockins of Seymour, IN; two brothers Alan Berkshire of Rural Bridgeport, IL and Stephen Berkshire of St. Louis, MO; two sisters Linda Carter of Vincennes and Diana “DeDe” Berkshire Wilson of Olney, IL; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will be Monday evening at 5:00 pm at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. 

Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 pm until the hour of service at 5:00 pm at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery at a later date.

Doris Jean Rogers

Doris Jean Rogers, 79, of Lawrenceville, IL (formerly of Patoka, IN) passed away Tuesday December 8, 2009 at the United Methodist Village North Campus.

She was born June 2, 1930 in Lawrenceville, IL the daughter of Jesse Elmer and Nellie (Marcum) Adams. In 1948 she married Billy Lou Rogers. He preceded her in death in 1992.

Surviving are 3 sons: Everett Buddy Rogers of Princeton, IN, Philip Dean Rogers of Rockwall, TX, Richard William Rogers of Evansville, IN, a daughter: Billie Marlene Wilson of Vincennes, IN, 3 sisters: Mary Reel of Lawrenceville, IL, Donna Wells of Bridgeport, IL, Betty Wiend of Quaker Town, PA, 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchidlren. 2 infant sisters Anna Elizabeth and Margaret Pauline Adams, are deceased, along with 2 brothers Everett William and Larry Lee.

Doris Jean worked as a switchboard operator for the Lawrenceville Telephone Company and also for the Gibson County General Hospital in Princeton, IN. She was a graduate of Lawrence Township High School. She was a member of the Patoka United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be Friday at 2:00pm at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home with burial to follow at Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Visitation is also Friday from 1:00 until the service hour of 2:00pm.

Memorial donations may be given to the Patoka United Methodist Church Endowment Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Elton E. Carlson

Elton E. Carlson, age 81, beloved husband, father, brother, and Minister, passed from this life to his heavenly reward at 5:30 P.M., Monday, December 7, 2009 at Deaconess Hospital, Evansville, Indiana.

He was born August 5, 1928, in Lake View, Michigan, to the late Oscar Benjamin Carlson and Emma Ruth (Wilcox) Carlson. He graduated from high school in Manton, Michigan in 1946. On April 15, 1949, he married Edna M. (Buckner) Carlson in Muskegon, Michigan. They recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary and serving in the Christian Ministry together. Edna passed away on June 14, 2009.

His life was dedicated to serving the Lord in Christian Ministry. This past March he began his 62nd year in the Ministry and at the time of his passing serving as the Minister of the Griffin Christian Church in Griffin, Indiana. He attended Johnson Bible College in Tennessee then Great Lakes Christian College in Michigan.

He served in several congregations in Michigan, Illinois, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Indiana. He served in Sumner, Illinois as Minister for 14 years. He went to Russia on at least 3 short-term missions trips and kept in contact with the churches there providing them with encouragement in their mission work. He will always be remembered at the various Church Camps where he served on the faculty for being the one to wake them up in the mornings singing over the PA System: “Oh What A Beautiful Morning”. He never met a stranger and it seemed like no matter where he would travel throughout the country, he would come across someone he knew.

Elton is survived by: Two Daughters: Naomi (Dewey) Nash, Albion, IL, and Rebecca (Donald) Dean, Olney, IL; Five sons: David (Carol) Carlson, Lansing, MI, Steven (Denise) Carlson, Holt, MI, Daniel (Carleen) Carlson, Olney, IL, Timothy (Patty) Carlson, Johnson City, TN, and Philip (Karla) Carlson, Olney, IL; Seven grandsons: Nicholas Dean, Michael, Adam (Ann), Kristopher, Logan, Brandon and Andrew Carlson; Six granddaughters: Audra (Jeff) Fleeharty, Emily Dean, Crystal, Cassandra, Courtney, and Kelly Carlson; Two great-grandchildren: Aaron Dean and Avery Fleeharty; Four step-grand-children: Melissa (Rex) Clements, Jeff (Joy) Durham, Dana French, and Arden Hamrick; Two step-great-grand-children: Jaden and Jacob Durham; One Brother: Raymond (Gladys) Carlson, Birch Run, MI., and One Sister: Leona (Martin) Wilson, Mason, MI. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Marion Washe and Frances Morrow, and two children (twins): Martha and Mark Carlson.

Funeral services will be held at The Christian Church of Sumner in Sumner, Illinois, at 11:00am on Friday, December 11, 2009. Visitation will be at the Church prior to the Funeral Service from 9:00 until 11:00am. Burial will be at Liberty Township Cemetary, Manton, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to: The Christian Church of Sumner in Sumner, Illinois; Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, Tennessee; and Great Lakes Christian College in Lansing, Michigan.

Carl Leon Cunningham

Carl Leon Cunningham, 87 of Belpre, OH died December 7, 2009 at the Camden Clark Memorial Hospital.  He was born in Lawrenceville, IL and was the son of the late John Ervine Cunningham and the late Eva Marie Cunningham Kepple.  He was a 1941 graduate of Sumner High School, joined the Army, was a WWII army Air Corp Veteran and flew B-17 bombers from 1944 till February of 1945, having flown 25 missions as a co-pilot and Formation Control Officer.  He received several metals, one being the DFC and was released as a Captain.  He retired from Elkem Metals after 20 years of service.

 He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pauline Cunningham, one son Craig Leslie Cunningham and his wife Marilyn of Belpre, two daughters, Angie Cunningham of Belpre, OH, Carla Montgomery and her husband Clay of Pennsicola, FL, grandchildren Curt Cunningham of Belpre and Leslie Jo Cunningham of Parkersburg.  Also surviving are two sisters Esther Brumley of Lawrenceville, IL, Betty Tharp of Mt. Carmel, IL and his half-sister Mary Ellen Hamilton of Mt. Carmel, IL.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John and Pat Cunningham, his aunt and uncle who raised him, Omer and Grace Cunningham.

 Services will be at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL on Friday at 11:00 AM with Reverend Don Tharp officiating.  Burial will follow  in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Emmons-Macey and Steffey Funeral Home on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m.

 Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society, P.O. Box 392, Parkersburg, WV 26102 in memory of Mindy and Princess.

Clara B. Mathes

Clara B. Mathes, 70, of Sumner, IL passed away December 6, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, IN.  Born December 14, 1938 in Lawrence County, IL she was the daughter of William D. and Evelyn P. (Volkman) Gosnell.

Clara worked as a CNA and housekeeper at a local nursing home several years ago.  She attended the Highway Church of God.

Survivors include  two sons Fred H. Schultz of Mt. Carmel, IL and Randy L. Schultz of Townsend, TN; one daughter Connie Schultz of Sumner, IL; three brothers Robert E. Gosnell and Ed Gosnell both of Lawrenceville and Kenneth David Gosnell of Indiana; five sisters Donna Smith, Dolores Plummner, Sally Legg and Freda Hughes all of Bridgeport and Shirley Beers of Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandchild.

The funeral will be 11:00 AM Saturday at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner.  Friends may call from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday at the Funeral Home.  Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery.

Mary “Elsie” Brandenburg Selby

Mary “Elsie” Brandenburg Selby, 87, was called home to our Lord at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital, Lawrenceville, IL.

Born July 9, 1922 in Vincennes, she was the daughter of Robert J. Jr. and Mary Louise (Brandenburg) Boelling.  Mary graduated from Lincoln High School and was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lawrenceville, IL.  She retired from Baptist Memorial Hospital, Memphis, TN. 

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Selby, whom she married September 9, 1956.  She was also preceded in death by her parents and four sisters.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Sandra (Selby) Watson, Chattanooga, TN and Janice (Selby) Clifton, Signal Mountain, TN; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday from 12pm to 2 pm Saturday with the service beginning at 2 pm at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home, Lawrenceville, IL.  Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery.

Betty Webster

Betty Webster, 86, of Lawrenceville,IL passed away Friday November 27 at Good Samaitan Hospital in Vincennes, IN.

Born August 31, 1923 in Lincoln, IL she was the daughter of Raymond and Harriett (Downey) Dempsey. On October 4, 1941 she married Harry Webster. He survives.

Also survivng are 3 sons: David and Karen Webster of Benald, IL, Steven and Susan Webster of St. Francisville, IL, Richard and Leslie Webster of Olney, IL, a daughter: Sandy and Lyman Harrington of Lawrenceville, IL, a brother: Jack De4mpsey of Chicago, IL, 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. A son Larry, a brother and 2 great-grandchildren.

Betty was a homemaker and a farm wife.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00pm Saturday at Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

Thelma Irene Kiser

Thelma Irene Kiser, 80, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away November 26, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN.

Born November 28, 1928 in Lawrence County, IL she was the daughter of William David Jackman and Florence Gola (Marks) Jackman.  She married LaVern Arthur Kiser who preceded her in death May 5, 1996.

Thelma was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church of Bridgeport, IL.

Survivors include seven sons James and Suzanne Kiser of rural Bridgeport, William and Sandy Kiser of Lawrenceville, Robert and Carol Kiser of Scottsburg, IN, Richard and Rannie Kiser of rural Lawrenceville, Kenneth Kiser of Lancaster, IL, Roger and Pam Kiser and Lewis and Lisa Kiser, all of Lawrenceville, IL; three daughters Becky Kiser of Olney, IL, Janet and Jerry Botkin of Geff, IL; Judy and Paul Kopp of Vincennes, IN; one brother Harold R. Jackman of rural Sumner, IL; two sisters Dorothy Jean Askren and Hester L. Walls both of Lawrenceville, IL; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Veva M. Vowells

Veva M. Vowells, 93, of Sumner, IL passed away Wednesday November 25, 2009 at Lawrence Community Healthcare in Bridgeport, IL.

She was born May 20, 1916 in Landes, IL the daughter of Odin and Sarah (Baker) Pepple. On November 3, 1934 she married Leon Vowells. He preceded her in death in 1982.

She is survived by a son: Richard L. Vowells of Sumner, IL, 2 grandchildren: Terry and wife Debbie Vowells of Francisco, IN, Deb and her husband Dave Arnold of Lawrenceville, IL, 5 great-grandchildren,and 6 great-great-grandchildren. A son Larry Vowells, 6 brothers and 3 sisters are deceased.

She worked at the Olney Shoe Factory and was also a homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Lawrenceville, IL and a member of Eastern Star.

The funeral will be Saturday at 10:00am at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner. Burial will follow at Sumner Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 5:00 until 7:00pm with an Eastern Star Service at 6:30pm.

Nina B. Wolfe

Nina B. (Wise) Montgomery Wolfe, 87, of Lawrenceville passed away Sunday November 22, 2009 at Lawrence County memorial Hospital.

She was born June 27, 1922 in St. Francisville, IL the daughter of Charles and Katie (Schultz) Wise.  She was first married to Raymond Earl Montgomery. He preceded her in death. She then married Woodrow Wolfe. He also preceded her in death.

She is survived by 1 son: Virgil Moyes of Lawrenceville, IL, 2 daughters: Nina R. Baetke of Princeton, IA, Ellysa Meyerholz of Pana, IL, 6 step-children, a half-sister: Sarah Mason of Vincennes, IN, 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren,  and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter: Sandra kay Moyes, and a step-child.

Nina worked at the United Methodist Village in laundry. She also cleaned houses. During WWII, she worked as a Rosie The Riveter, welding in the ship yards. She was a member of the Wesleyan Chruch on Fourth Street in Lawrenceville. She was a member of the Ding-a-lings.

The funeral will be Friday at 11:00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home with burial to follow at May Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 until the service hour of 11:00am on Friday.

PAULINE V. THOMPSON

 Pauline V. Thompson, 78, of Lawrenceville passed away Wednesday November 18, 2009 at Lawrence County  memorial Hospital.

She was born November 17, 1931 in Burnt Prairie, IL the daughter of Edward Elmer and Anna Adeline (Briley) Brent.. She was married to Noble “Bud” Thompson. He preceded her in death on October 13, 1995.

She is survived by 3 sons: Noble “Sonny” Thompson III of Coeur D’ Alene, ID, Tracy Lee “Pete” Thompson of Ozark, MO, Bryan Keith Thompson of Lawrenceville, IL, 7 daughters: Pam Kiser of Lawrenceville, IL, Christina Cooper of Lawrenceville, IL, Rhonda Harvey of Bridgeport, IL, Barbara Thompsonj of Columbus, IN, Anita Tidwell of Bartlesville, OK, Mearly Thompson of Lawrenceville, IL, Hellena “Katie” McAlmore of Nowata, OK, 2 brothers: Ivan Brent of Carmi, IL, William Brent of Washington, sister: Velma Jean Newman of North Little Rock, AR, 33 grandchildren, and 53 great-grandchildren. 3 brothers, six sisters and a grandchild are deceased.

Pauline was a CNA at the United Methodist Village and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Wesleyan Christian Church on 6th Street in Lawrenceville, IL.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 10:00am Saturday at Trinity Power of Pentecost at 910 Collins in Lawrenceville. There is no visitation. Burial of her ashes will be at the Spraggins Cemetery in Velpen, IN.

Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society.

GLORIA E. ROARK

Gloria E. Roark, 87, rural Sumner, IL passed away Tuesday November 17, 2009 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital.

She was born November 18, 1921 in Emison, IN the daughter of Charles Edward and Esther B. (Cannon) Higgins. On December 15, 1940 she married Ancil Roark Sr. He preceded her in death on February 22, 2008.

She is survived by 3 sons: Ancil Roark Jr. and wife Patricia of Bridgeport, IL, Charles Roark and wife Stephanie of Sumner, IL, Terry Roark and wife Jerrie of Sumner, IL, 8 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Gloria retired after 34 years of driving a school bus for Sumner and Red Hill School Districts. She was also a housewife. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Emison, IN, and also attended the Sumner United Methodist Church. Gloria enjoyed camping and had been a member of the White Squirrel Camping Club. She enjoyed going to the Sumner Senior Citizens.

The funeral will be Thursday at 12:00pm at Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cresthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is also Thursday from 10:00am until the service hour of 12:00pm.

Memorial donations may be given to the Sumner Senior Citizens.

WENDELL EDWARD McCLURE

Wendell Edward McClure, 69, of St. Francisville, IL passed away November 14, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN.  Born October 16, 1940 in Bruceville, IN he was the son of Clarence and Julia (Nash) McClure.  He married Ramona Kimbrel October 4, 1964 and she survives.

Mr. McClure retired from Essex Wire in Vincennes, IN; he also retired from construction work.  He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Vincennes, IN and a member of 309 Paper Workers Union, as well as the Labor Local Union.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Charles McClure; one sister Helen Davis; and one grandson.

Survivors include his wife Ramona of St. Francisville; one son Clarence Edward McClure of rural St. Francisville; six daughters Karen Lynn Black of Vincennes, Helen Leona Henderson of Marion, IL, Pamela Laureen Leasher of Effingham, IL, Julia Viola McFarland of Robinson, Andrea Sue McClure and Samantha Ann McClure both of rural St. Francisville; one brother Robert Eugene McClure of Sullivan, IN; two sisters Norma Lynch of Pensacola, FL and Carol Sue Merry of Vincennes, IN; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 12:00 noon (CST) Wednesday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL.
Burial will be in the Billett Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday from 10:00 am until the hour of service at 12:00 noon (CST) at the funeral home.

JEAN CREWS

Jean Crews, 78, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Saturday November 14, 2009 at her residence.

She was born November 5, 1931 in Bridgeport, IL the daughter of Everett and Pauline (Lawson) Johnson. On July 15, 1950 she married Walter “Bud” Crews. he preceded her in death on April 16, 2008.

Jean worked in retail for many years. She worked at the Western Auto Store, Hazels Clothing Store, and the Hallmark House all in Lawrenceville. She also cooked at Lawrenceville High School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville. She was also a member of BETA Sigma Phi.

She is survived by a son: Robert and Karen Crews of Lawrenceville, IL, a daughter: Judy and Paul Swing Jr. of Lawrenceville, IL, 4 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. An infant daughter: Cindy and 2 brothers are deceased.

The funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00am at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at lawrenceville City Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home.

BILLY J. HEATH

Billy J. “Butch” Heath, 66, of rural Sumner, IL passed away Friday November 13, 2009 at his residence.

He was born December 15, 1942 in Petty Township, IL the son of Raymond and Martha Ellen (Green) Heath. On April 3, 1976 he married Wanda Earnest. She survives.

Butch was retired from UPS. He was a member of the Union Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Elks, Moose, NRA, and he was Petty Township Trustee.

Along with his wife, he is survived by  3 daughters: Kimberly Houchin of Olney, IL, Kelly Wolfe of Bridgeport, IL, Kristine Rhinehart of Bridgeport, IL, 2 step-daughters: Wendy James of Lamont, MO, Susan Magnan of Bridgeport, IL, 3 brothers: Tom Heath of Bridgeport, IL, Tony Heath of Bridgeport, IL, Mike Heath of Sumner, IL, a sister: Patty Russell of Tuscola, IL, and 7 grandchildren. A brother is deceased.

The funeral will be Monday at 12:00pm at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Petty Cemetery. Visitation is also Monday from 10:00am until 12:00pm at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Robert Tyler Cummins, 23, of Lawrenceville, Il passed away Friday November 13, 2009 at his residence.

He was born May 13, 1986 in Baton Rouge, LA the son of Robert B. Cummins of Lawrenceville, IL and Jamie (Pfoff) Howell of Edwardsport, IN.

He is survived by a son: Clayton Tyler Cummins of Bicknell, IN, two brothers: Brandon Lee Cummins of Bicknell, IN and Joseph Scott Cummins, a sister: Tara Lynn Cummins of Edwardsport, IN, Paternal grandmother: Phyllis Cummins of Lawrenceville, IL, and Maternal grandmother: Paula Marsh of Ewardsport, IN.

A Graveside Service will be conducted Monday at 9:30am at Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Visitation is also Monday at 8:30 to 9:30am at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home.

JOE W. MILLER

Joe W. Miller, 72, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Thursday November 12, 2009 at his residence.

He was born November 23, 1936 in Big Clifty, KY the son of Willie and Bertho (Harkness) Miller. On July 14, 1958 he married Doris Leib. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include 3 sons: Jim Miller and Jeannie Ramirez of Lawrenceville, IL, Paul and Kim Miller of Vincennes, IN, Joe and Mandi Miller of Effingham, IL, 2 daughters; Connie and terry Berry of Bridgeport, IL, Pam and Vic Harrington of Highland, IL, a sister: Vivian Purcell of Valparaiso, IN, 10 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.

He had worked for Moore Brothers as a mechanic for 25 years.

A graveside service will be conducted Monday at 3:00pm at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Visitation is also Monday from 12:00 until 3:00pm at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home.

Memorial doantions may be given to the Susan G. Koman Foundation.

MARY JANE PALMER

Mary Jane Palmer, 88, of Lawrenceville, IL passed away Thursday November 12, 2009 at Lawrence Communiy Healthcare in Bridgeport, IL.

Born August 4, 1921 in Knox County, IN the daughter of Craven and Pearl Maude (Vanmeter) Byrd. On December 25, 1940 she married Allen E. Palmer. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by 2 sons: Craven Palmer of Bloomfield, IN, Elijah O. Palmer of Lebanon, TN, 5 sisters: Marjorie Huffman of Stevenson, AL, Shirley Anderson of Merritt Island, FL, Wanda Applegate of Bicknell, IN, Pearl Bernice Jones of Ottawa, IL, Betty McCullough of Vincennes, IN, 3 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of God in Lawrenceville, IL and the VFW Auxiliary.

The funeral will be Saturday at 12:00pm at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home. Visitation is also Saturday from 10:00am to 12:00pm Saturday. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Vincennes, IN.

CYNTHIA HAHN STOCKER LEE

Cynthia Hahn Stocker Lee, 94, Bridgeport, died at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Lawrence Community Healthcare Center, Bridgeport, IL.

Cynthia was born in Poplar Grove, Illinois on March 31, 1915, the first child of Albert and Anna Stocker.  She graduated from Belvidere High School as Salutatorian and then attended Rockford Business College before enrolling at the University of Illinois where she graduated in 1937 with a degree in home economics.  She met the love of her life, James Robert Lee, when she was a senior at the university. After teaching school for three years in Fisher, IL, they were married in 1940.  Their marriage lasted for 61 years, and they had three children: Betsy, Richard and David.

After several years of child-rearing, Cynthia returned to teaching and taught kindergarten in Grayville, IL for 20 years.  She thoroughly enjoyed teaching children and giving to others.  Her service to others included serving as choir director in the Zion United Methodist Church (where she was a long time member), serving as a volunteer at the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville for a number of years and teaching piano lessons. They lived in West Salem for 41 years until moving to the United Methodist Village, Lawrenceville, where they became members of the First United Methodist Church. Following Bob’s death in 2003, Cynthia moved to Robinson to be near family and ultimately moved to the Lawrenceville Community Healthare Center in Bridgeport where she resided at the time of her death.

She loved playing the piano, church, family and her friends, and was a wonderful grandmother to her six grandchildren, who will all miss her:  Matthew Coale (Renee), Vancouver, WA; Rebecca Skloot, Memphis, TN; Darla Doan (Keith), Carbondale, IL; Stephanie and Stacey Benton, Robinson, IL; and Darrin Lund, Champaign, IL. Her three children and their spouses survive her:  Betsy McCarthy (Terry), Vancouver, WA; Richard Lee (Joyce), Champaign; and David Lee (Frances) of Robinson. Also surviving are two great grandchildren: Nicholas Coale, Auburn, WA and Justin Coale, Vancouver, WA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Alberta Knorr, Vero Beach, FL, and two brothers; Noel Stocker, Arlington, VA and Lyle Stocker, West Bend, WI.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Zion United Methodist Church in West Salem, Illinois, at 1 pm on Saturday, December 5. Memorial donations may be made to the church.
